Steve Abraham is attempting to beat the world highest annual cycling mileage record next year and we are thrilled to be sponsoring his attempt. Tommy Godwin set the record in 1939 for the furthest distance cycled in a year on a pedal bike and his record has stood for 76 years. In 2015 Steve Abraham, a noted long distance cyclist from Milton Keynes in the United Kingdom, will attempt to ride more than 75,065 miles. Green Jersey French Cycling Tours are delighted to be sponsoring Steve.
In order to beat the record, Steve will have to cycle an average of more than 205 miles every day for a year.
Steve Abraham has many years' experience in cycling long distances and is a multiple finisher of rides such as Paris-Brest-Paris (PBP) and London-Edinburgh-London. Indeed, as 2015 is also a PBP year he may incorporate the event into his distance record attempt. He has also regularly ridden 24 hour time trials such as the Mersey Roads (13x), Britain's blue-riband day long test of speed and stamina, and has held the annual points record for Audax UK, Britain's long distance cycling association, in 1996 in the process setting a new record which stood for 17 years. In 2008 Steve was voted 'Hors Categorie' by the Audax UK AGM - a bit like the Sports Personality of the Year Lifetime Achievement Award.
