New Eurostar services open up south of France for cycling

Eurostar have announced new direct services to the south of France beginning on 1 May 2015. Previously, there had been a summer-only direct route from London to Avignon and Marseille but the increase in services will result in 5 direct trains a week. This will make taking a cycling holiday in Provence much easier without having to worry about flying there or back.

Provence is a wonderful area for cycling with quiet lanes and the countryside immortalised by Peter Mayle in his book 'A Year in Provence'. Cycling between pretty hilltop villages, and riding past vineyards and olive groves, is a fine way to spend a week in the saddle and the area is the sunniest in France!

Green Jersey French Cycling Tours run a week long Provence and Luberon cycling tour starting and finishing in Avignon, served by the new service, and the Marseille route will be of interest to those on our St Malo to Sete or Calais to Nice routes looking for a return by train with a fully assembled bike - at present the TGV does not take them on this line from the south of France to Paris, but with Eurostar you can book ahead and reserve a space for your bicycle.

Fares begin from £99 return and bookings are now available at http://www.eurostar.com/
