Brittany is an historic and proud region, steeped in myth and tradition. A visit here is likely to prove memorable as you get a flavour of what makes it so special. Proud of its maritime heritage you are never far from beautiful coastlines with tiny sandy coves; inland, enchanted forests provide just some of the highlights of this western extremity of France. It is not unusual to see ladies dressed in traditional costume, speaking the Breton language, and the annual pardons and Fest Noz provide the ideal opportunity for village celebrations. The Breton language is still spoken in places and roadsigns are in both languages.
Brittany is famous for its sea food and also for galettes and crepes. Galettes are savoury pancakes whilst crepes are sweeter; both are served laden with goodies and accompanied by a bowl of cider. Calorific treats include Kouign Amann, a sweet buttery pastry that should only really be eaten if you’ve just cycled at least three hundred miles, or if you are on holiday. All this combines to make this a fascinating place to visit, and there is no better way than by bike.
