Green Jersey Cycling Tours are pleased to announce a new date for their Somme Battlefields weekend over the May Day Bank Holiday from Friday 28 April to Tuesday 2 May 2017.
This four night tour includes three days' riding and visits all of the major sights of the Somme battles of 1916, as well as some less well known ones. The cycling is straightforward with about 35 miles per day, and plenty of stops for refreshments and talks on the context of the places visited. The tour has been specially formulated to follow the chronological order of events as closely as possible.
Refreshments await at a Somme battlefield cemetery
Green Jersey French cycling Tours have been conducting popular cycling tours of the battlefields for a number of years and their itineraries have proven to be an excellent balance of riding and history. They use quiet roads and good hotels, making it not just a pleasurable day out but an enjoyable evening too. This tour, which visits Thiepval, the Sunken Lane, the Newfoundlnad Memorial Park, Mametz Wood, Delville Wood and the Butte de Warlancourt amongst many other places, is an ideal way to discover for yourself just why this is such a fascinating period of history to explore.
