Cycling Champagne and Picardy

Our Picardy and Champagne cycling holiday is packed full of attractions each day, just north of Paris, the region of Picardy is often passed through on the way south but is an interesting and historic area. Both regions were involved in the fighting of WWI and reminders are frequently seen. We pass some of these, as well as the splendid chateau at Chantilly and ancient towns of Roman origins such as Laon, as well as the majestic city of Reims.

A few km out side of Compiegne in a clearing in the forest is the railway carriage in which the 1918 armistice was signed and France's surrender in 1940, as the day goes on you will see more reminders of this period in history.

As we ride into Champagne, you will immediately see row upon row of vines on the gently rolling hills, while in Reims all the major champagne houses are represented and you can take tours of their vast underground cellars.
