Berlin to Munich

September 2025

Ride from irrepressable Berlin to wonderful Munich, Germany's capital of the south. Two great cities linked by a fantastic route taking in some of the other beautiful towns and regions of the country and even a quick visit to the Czech Republic on the way!

Visit the reborn city of Dresden, the Elbe valley, the fashionable spa resort of Karlovy Vary in the Czech Republic and many many other fine places on a lovely rural route. The terrain is mostly benign, with just a couple of hillier days in the middle, making this suitable for a wide variety of cyclists. German cycling infrastructure is very good and e-bikes are well catered for and welcome!

Itinerary

Day 1

We meet to do our pre ride briefing at 7pm at our central Berlin hotel, within a short walk of the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag and Checkpoint Charlie, after which we go for our group dinner (included).

Day 2

With the Brandenburg Gate as the backdrop for our start-line photograph, we head west using cycle tracks to exit the city before heading south towards Potsdam. It’s a gentle ride today along quiet ways, and cycle infrastructure in Germany is fantastic with the majority of roads having a dedicated separate cycle path to the side. Our destination is a charming market town which owes some fine architecture to an historic wool trade with a very comfortable and well run hotel (50 miles / 80km / 300m elevation. Breakfast and dinner included).

Day 3

Soon we enter the regional park around the Spreewald and thus enjoy an unspoilt environment. Quiet roads and fine views abound on our way to our pretty overnight city, one of the Brandenburg region’s finest. Again, it’s not taxing riding today so you will make good progress and have plenty of time to enjoy the fine parks and squares of our destination (68 miles / 108km / 150m elevation. Breakfast included).

Day 4

It’s a longer day today but still not overly hilly and we will have a prompt start to get you to wonderful Dresden in good time. Well known for being completely destroyed in the war, the city has been painstakingly rebuilt and has so much to recommend it – a visit to the Frauenkirche is a must and you will enjoy your time here, it’s one of those places no-one ever regrets visiting. (80 miles / 127km / 716m elevation. Breakfast included).

Day 5

There is time to longer a little in the morning before crossing the Elbe and heading south. It’s a little hillier today but a shorter day so easily manageable. We stop just short of the Czech border in a very pretty small town. (54 miles / 86km / 1152 m elevation. Breakfast and dinner included).

Day 6

Bohemia beckons as we cross into the Czech Republic! The hilliest day of the ride through some wonderful countryside with a very rural and different feel to Germany but very appealing. The spa town of Karlovy Vary is our destination, a really delightful place. (59 miles / 94 km / 1794 m elevation. Breakfast included).

Day 7

A really picturesque town with a 12 th century castle on a bend in the river is our first stop – we bet you’ll have your cameras out before our coffee and cake stop. A slightly higgledy piggledy route takes us back into Germany as direct roads are few and far between, and into Bavaria, well known for its beauty. Our lovely hotel is in a fantastic position in the very heart of a wonderful town (70 miles / 111km / 1422 m elevation. Breakfast and dinner included).

Day 8

The final landmark of your journey today as you ride to the Danube at Regensburg and its wonderful mediaeval centre. The lumpy days are behind you and you can enjoy the fantastic countryside and pretty villages of the region perhaps enjoying an extra cake stop in one of the shops the Germans love – and we do too!  (63 miles / 100km / 491 m elevation. Breakfast included).

Day 9

A short but not entirely flat day today as Munich approaches. Too far to do in one day we have split it into two shorter days and tonight we stop in a small market town with a nice old centre. (51 miles / 82 km / 617m elevation. Breakfast and dinner included)

Day 10

We enter Munich by a safe and cycle friendly route. The capital of Bavaria is a great city with a proud heritage and a fascinating centre, full of history and interesting sights. The beer is well known and if you are partial to a glass you can relax in the knowledge that there’s no riding tomorrow! We use a hotel close to the centre so everything is accessible and are confident you will love this vibrant city! (35 miles / 56km / 245m elevation. Breakfast and dinner included).

Day 11

Departure after breakfast to suit your onward travel arrangements. Both the main station and the airport are well integrated into the local transport network.
